The Bernard Becker Medical Library was founded in 1911 and is one of the oldest and most comprehensive medical libraries in the United States. It serves the faculty, staff, students, and alumni of the Washington University School of Medicine and alumni of the former Dental School. The Library extends its resources to health professionals in the local, state, and national communities. The Library provides services to individuals and groups either in person, by telephone, or by electronic mail. The Library integrates many information components that enables it to offer a variety of computing and special information services in addition to traditional library service.

The Boston Medical Library is a physicians non-profit organization incorporated in 1877 "to establish and maintain a Library of Medicine and the Allied Sciences and the promotion and advancement of medical science and education." Membership includes over 400 fellows. The Boston Medical Library serves as a resource for the medical school faculties and medical students of Harvard Medical School, Boston University Medical School, Tufts University School of Medicine and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. In 1982, the Boston Medical Library formally became the library for the Massachusetts Medical Society.
