Down here in Invercargill there's this DR Ajit Johri, who likes to skite how he is the ACC dr,Sportsmed dr,ITL's motel and hotel dr,Family dr,the Hepatitis C dr and how he used to be the Invercargill Prison dr and how he's a "really, really good dr" and if you google him, you'll see how he advertises both nation and worldwide,in all the health/professional/medical websites, plus Finda and Yellowpages, but what he doesn't tell you is how in 2006 he was reprimanded by the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.A patient of his who was pregnant presented to him with a lump in her breast and all he did was give her a course Panadol and antibiotics, with a directive to make another appointment in 10 days,so he could (of course)get more money off her and when she did, with little improvement,he neither made a follow up appointment, nor referred her to a specialist,he simply just didn't care.
The tribunal said that his acts and omissions were a "serious deparure" from the standards expected of a general practitioner and they decided that a 'formal censure' was a genuine punishment and ordered him to pay 1/3 of the tribunal's costs. So what is a formal censure?Isn't it just a few lines in a file somewhere?A minor slap on the wrist, maybe?
In this country if you or I don't pay our bills your name goes out on a list,if you don't pay your rent,or if you're a suspected sex offender. If you have to go to Court, your name gets printed in the newspaper, goes out on the radio,or they put you on tv,but not this fella eh?And of course I reckon that you should take it into account that Dr Johri had (already),at that time, been working in our community for 24 years.
A cobber of mine has had really high blood pressure on 2 separate visits to dr Johri, within the last 3 weeks and although dr has (now) referred him to the Cardiology unit at Southland Hospital,it is only after he was told that my friend had been in touch with both the Health and Disability Commissioner and the local Health Advocate and I must stress right here that my friend had to 'actually' ask dr before he would refer him, which just goes to show you that he's either still incompetent,or that he still simply just doesn't care.
