* In the United States, approximately 175,000 are diagnosed each year - accounting for about 13% of all new cancer cases.

As percentage of tobacco consumption has increase the percentage of cancer patients are increased, especially lung cancer patients. This article gives pretty good idea about lung cancer.

Avoiding risk factors and increasing protective factors may lower your risk but it does not mean that you will not get cancer.
Different ways to prevent cancer are being studied, including:
1) Changing lifestyle or eating habits.
2) Avoiding things known to cause cancer.
3) Taking medicines to treat a precancerous condition or to keep cancer from starting.
